Our wool is sourced from one of the oldest wool mills in the world, based in Austria and in continuous operation for more than 600 years. Still family-owned, the mill has been passed down through generations, preserving a deep knowledge of traditional wool craftsmanship that very few places in the world can claim.
Today, the same mill is responsible for producing our sauna hats, working with natural fibres and time-honoured techniques to create pieces defined by durability, comfort, and lasting quality.
The process begins with raw wool, blended and carded into a fine continuous fleece before being spun into yarn. The yarns are woven into woollen cloth on large looms, then checked by hand for flaws, a step that has remained unchanged for centuries.
The cloth is then fulled, moistened with warm water and compressed until the fibres felt naturally together. The fabric becomes denser, more resilient, and naturally water-resistant, thanks to the lanolin present in the wool itself. No synthetic treatments. No shortcuts.
Finally, the fabric is air-dried on long wooden frames in the open air, slowly and gently, allowing the fibres to breathe and relax, before being dressed to achieve its distinctive softness and finish.
A process that has remained essentially unchanged for six centuries. Built into every hat we make.
