Origin & Craftsmanship

The peshtemal has its roots in the traditional Turkish bath, the hammam, where it was designed hundreds of years ago to provide modesty and ease of movement for bathers. The epicentre of this craft has long been the Buldan district of Denizli, Turkey, where our peshtemals are made today, handwoven on looms using natural fibres in a tradition that has remained essentially unchanged for centuries.

Our producer combines that heritage with a modern approach to quality and responsibility, holding GOTS, OEKO-TEX 100, ISO 9001 and SEDEX certifications. The cotton is organically sourced, free from harmful substances, and produced under ethical and quality-managed conditions throughout.

The process begins in the cotton fields of Turkey, where organic cotton is grown, harvested, and spun into fine yarn. The yarn is dyed and warped before being woven on looms that bring together traditional craftsmanship and modern technique. Each piece is then washed for softness and finished by hand, with the signature fringe applied as the final detail.

From cotton field to finished piece, every step takes place within a single, traceable production chain. A towel designed to be used often, washed often, and returned to again and again.
